Sussan 'Miami' Collection 2011

Sussan Miami Collection

I hesitate as I write, loyal readers, because Sussan is not known for its fashion-forwardness. And yet, as I have written many times before, if blogging has taught me one thing, that thing has been not to judge, or to be ready to eat your words in due time.

And so I would like to present a few selections from the Sussan Miami Collection. Sussan has only ever been known to me as a 'mumsy' shop, so imagine my surprise when I walked past its Fremantle branch's windows one rainy spring morning not so long ago, only to be faced with BRILLIANT oranges and a thoroughly pared-down, simple summer lady look, promoted through its 'Miami Style' collection. I nearly fell off my clogs, let me tell you, and I've been struggling with conflicting feelings ever since.

'But self!' I said to myself, 'Sussan is a middle-aged lady shop! White pants and pyjamas dominate its windows! You can't really like things they sell, can you?'

'I don't know, other-self,' I replied. 'I just don't know anymore. Up is down, black is white, birds swim and fish fly and dogs are taking humans for walks. And I like Sussan's clothes.'

This may be a little melodramatic, but essentially that is what I've been suffering for the last few weeks. I've decided to face my demons and plunge in. My philosophy has always been not to care what others think, and to take inspiration from wherever it comes, so that's just what I'll do!

The clothes are nothing mindblowing, to be sure, but the colour combinations and the overall effortlessness of the looks catch my fancy. Orange breton! Tie-dye! Patterned shorts! Wide-legged navy trousers!
I'll admit I'm not a fan of the accessories or the model's giant grin or the general mumsy-ness of the lookbook, but I can see past it, can't you?
Please say yes, or I might start to fear for my sanity...
