I have a secret.
I hate spring!

It makes no sense in Perth, where the winters are so mild that there's nothing to recover from. One of my favourite things about living in England was the real sense of rebirth and freshness and starting anew that came with the melting of snow, the warming up of days, the daffodils bursting forth from hard earth.

Here it just heralds shifty, changeable weather that tricks you into thinking its warm enough to go out in short sleeves, and then surprises you with freezing, blustery winds and sudden rain showers. Give me proper summer any day! I'm tired of wondering whether or not I should take a cardigan, and tired of buying shorts only to have them sit unworn on my shelves, waiting for the sun to come out for good.

This skirt is something I bought a couple of months ago meaning to shorten it, and then of course life got in the way and it has hung uselessly in my wardrobe ever since. So I decided to be a little risqué and knot it up and wear it like this to uni. Sans Hasbeens, of course, since they're brand new (yay!) and I haven't broken them in yet.

And this canvas bag from work is what I actually take my schoolbooks around in, so the shoes are the only lie, really.

Who else harbours a secret ambivalence towards this most revered of seasons?

  1. I actually really hate summer in Perth - it's like being inside an oven, with little respite. But I agree, spring is strange here. It does make more sense in England, and I really enjoyed spring there.

    p.s. you look great!
